personality:

Emily places a great deal of emphasis on home life and makes certain that their living surroundings for her and her daughter is as cozy as possible. It is unsurprising to find lots of fluffy pillows and fuzzy blankets around their home. She also loves to cook and garden, and one of her joys in life is to tend to her vegetable and gruit garden. She is obsessed with eating healthy food and leading an enriching life - therefore, she did not allow a television in the house and only had a laptop for her and Echo to share. Granted, she is not able to provide many fancy technological gadgets for her daughter, but does not object to buying lots of books. She may have a difficult time saying no to friends, but does not let Echo to take advantage of her. Critising or speaking harshly to Echo is one of her least favorite things to do and avoids it as much as possible. She tries to be as sympathetic and gentle as possible to everyone, even when they are rude to her. It is possible to break through people's cruelty with kindness, as far as she is concerned.

On the other hand, she can be dependant on people she likes and usually is modest. Emily does not have a high opinion of herself and can be very hesitant to do anything that requires putting herself in very noticeable positions - she prefers to work in the background and help people in small groups at a time. As a hard-working woman, Emily often performs as many tasks in a day as possible and does not rest until everything is to her liking. While she may be a hard worker, having fun is also important to her and she takes pleasure in going for walks outdoors with her daughter. One of her absolute favorite games to play is Charades, both guessing and acting out. When a topic interests her even to the smallest degree, she usually finds a knowledgeable person and persists in asking questions until she learns enough to move on to use it in some way.

history:

Jim and Emma Planck married and lived together in Nashville for two years before Emma became pregnant with Emily. Unfortunately, Emma died soon after childbirth from losing too much blood in labour. Jim’s brother Bob soon came to live with the two afterwards, to keep Jim company. Jim and Bob both had corporate jobs, and an infant Emily spent most of the time with the Cherrytons from across the street. The family had a daughter roughly Emily’s age, Beth, and the two grew up to be close friends. When she grew older, Emily would clean the house and cook for her father and uncle.

After school, Emily often found that she liked looking after smaller children in her neighbourhood, often siblings of Beth. When she was thirteen, she broke her arm after falling off a tree and was greatly jarred by the experience. It was then she awakened her biological manipulation ability to stop the pain. Although she was terrified at first, Emily soon experimented her power by healing herself and on injured animals she found. Naturally, she also studied anatomy of animals and humans in order to know what she was supposed to be curing. She became dedicated to mastering her power and helping others.

At almost sixteen, she started to date a boy named Mathias and soon became infactuated with him. They dated for six months and that period of time was a very happy one for her. They slept together after a school dance, resulting in Emily becoming pregnant. Mathias was not ready for her declaration of love or taking care of a baby and left her heartbroken. Jim learned of the news and was very disappointed in her. In fact, the only people who supported her from the start were Beth and Joanna, Bob's girlfriend. Emily found a job as a secretary when the baby was born and her uncle married Joanna, who helped greatly with the care of Echo.

Working and taking care of an infant proved to be very stressful for the inexperienced Emily, though Joanna managed to also look after Echo while Emily was busy. She documented her daughter's development extensively with a video camera and taking pictures. Her favorite moment was seeing Echo walk for the first time. Taking Echo out to the park was an enjoyable activity and Emily wanted to educate her with as much knowledge of nature as she could. She introduced her daughter to the garden in their backyard and had fun showing her the different plants and bugs in the area. The day she had to send Echo off to school was a difficult one for her

When Echo was eight, she introduced Emily to the single father of her friend Abbey and she was so desperate to have some male company that she had a quick fling with him. The two found that they had no chemistry or any common interests and shortly separated. Emily joined a sewing club with a couple of the mothers of Echo's friends and worked on several projects when she had free time. She continued to work as a secretary and prefered her life to be a simple one, living with her father and daughter. They were not well off, but always seemed to manage to scrape together enough money to live comfortably.

The final war hit and Emily found herself out of a job. She met a group of people who told her about Elysium, which would be a safe haven for herself and her daughter, and sounded like a decent place for them both to live. After some discussion with Echo, the two made plans to move.
